When I wrote the article about the Jets on Monday, it was right before Diana Russini’s report that the Jets wanted to turn back to starting Zach Wilson at Quarterback but he was “reluctant” to step back into playing for the Jets. Everyone on Jets Twitter had an opinion, including the beat reporters that were not able to get this scoop. If you look at this in Zach’s position, imagine if you were at your job, your manager was unhappy with your performance, even though the people around and above you were holding you back, and decided to give you less work and promoted two people over you. Once these two new guys get promoted, they do a way worse job than you so your manager comes back to you and says they messed up and we want to you come back for the same price and role and you won’t be back next year. It is pretty understandable that Zach would hesitate to take back the starting role after being benched for Tim Boyle and Chris Streveler the last two seasons.
When Aaron Rodgers was asked about the situation on the Pat Mcafee Show, he was way more mad about this information getting leaked and said that the rat was taken care of. Simultaneously, the Jets cut Tim Boyle and signed Brett Rypien to their practice squad. Boyle was downright terrible, which I wrote in one of my first articles, but usually, a team does not cut the QB that started two straight games for them. Adding all these pieces together, Tim Boyle, who is on this team since he was friends with Rodgers and “knew Hackett’s system” is the one that leaked the Zach news to the media. Obviously, I have no idea what goes on in an NFL locker room and assume there are internal conflicts with players everywhere. The Jets seem to be the only team in professional sports to have all their dirty laundry aired to the media.
With Boyle gone, the Jets renamed Zach Wilson as the starter today. Saleh said in his press conference that ZW is at his best when he airs it out and does his thing. For the last two seasons, this is what I have been saying but the Jets insisted on Zach being a boring QB and not making mistakes. I hope that #2 can go out there on Sunday and sling it. I don’t care if he throws picks if he’s taking shots down the field to Garrett Wilson. For the fans that are mad that Zach will kill the tank efforts, 1. you wanted him benched all season when the Jets still had a shot of making the playoffs and 2. we have been tanking for 7 years already lets go wins some games. I am tired of tanking and want to just see 2 offensive touchdowns in a game. Is that too much to ask for? I don’t know if it is but I am rooting for Zach for the rest of the season and hope he balls out.
