Weekend Preview- 12/1-12/3

Wow, how is it already December? 2023 has one month left and a banger of a weekend in the sports world. Last night the Knicks took care of business behind Jalen Brunson’s 42 6 and 8 performance. Killian Hayes played his best game in the NBA scoring 23 points on 10-13 shooting to keep it close for the Pistons who played with way more intensity than the Knicks. Last night was a great night for the debate of who the best point guard in the east currently is. Brunson, Haliburton, and Trae Young all dropped 42+ last night and continue to put up absurd numbers. All three of these guys must be all-stars this year or something is wrong. In that Pacers-Heat game, Jaime Jaquez provided much needed scoring for the Heat putting up 24 points off the bench. Jaquez has been one of the best rookies so far and has been a seamless fit for Miami. Heat Culture is real, I never would’ve thought Jaquez would make this much of an immediate impact on a contending team. Watching the Warriors game, Steve Kerr must’ve read JakesTakes because he kept Podz, Kuminga, and Moody in for most of the 4th quarter in a close game. The young trio combined for 43 points all shooting over 50% in a gritty win for the Dubs on 11-30-23.

The game of the night is in college football where #5 Oregon looks to seek revenge against #3 Washington. The winner of this game will make it to the College Football Playoff. The line of this game is heavily disrespecting Washington as they are 9 point underdogs. I think this will be another close battle like their first game in Washington. Although reports are saying that Michael Penix Jr is not 100% healthy for this game, I do hope and expect this game to be close and close out the last Pac-12 season on a high note. I do not really understand the playoff committee reasoning for Oregon being number 5. With no top 10 wins, I think they should be ranked behind Ohio State and Texas and maybe even Bama. Although they pass the eye-test and have looked like the best team in the nation, the reasoning for them being ranked this high makes no sense. I can’t wait for the CFP to expand next year.

The other Championship game I am looking forward to watching is #8 Alabama taking on #1 Georgia. In my opinion, Georgia has not looked as dominant as they have in recent years and I think Bama is just as talented as UGA. Things could get really interesting if Bama beats Georgia, Oregon beats Washington, Texas takes care of Oklahoma State, Michigan wins, and FSU beats Louisville. There could be a lot of chaos coming out of these games and there is a slight chance Ohio State could sneak in but not looking likely.

The NBA took an interesting route by having no games on this Sunday. Unfortunately, I cannot turn on a random Kings game at 330 when the Jets are getting destroyed and my fantasy team is cooked. Tonight the Knicks have to go play in Toronto in a second night of a back to back. Last time seemed like the game that we really missed Obi Toppin to bring the high energy plays off the bench. I think Donte makes the team better but no one can get the Garden rocking like Obi could, even though he can’t guard a stop sign in Indianapolis. Hopefully, the Knicks play with a lot more energy than last night as you know the Raptors will come out with swinging. The ESPN game of Philly vs Boston should be a good game but Embiid is a game-time decision. Embiid seems to duck smoke from Al Horford any time he can and I expect the Celtics to continue to dominate the Sixers. It seems that the injury bug is starting to hit the NBA as Booker and Wemby are out tonight.

December is one of the best months of the year in the sports world. Between College Football Championship and Bowl season, NBA and NHL, the backend of the NFL season and College Basketball picking up, there are great games on everyday. A nice treat in college basketball tonight as well as #4 Uconn has to play in Allen Fieldhouse to play #5 Kansas. I hope everyone has a great weekend!
